What is a wye fitting?

What is a wye fitting?

The best known and most widely used connection where the pipe thread provides both the mechanical joint and the hydraulic seal is the American National Pipe Tapered Thread, or NPT. NPT has a tapered male and female thread which seals with Teflon tape or jointing compound.

What is the use of flange?

As previously mentioned, NPT indicates the defined standard from ANSI - but many people use MPT/MIP and FPT/FIP interchangeably. MPT stands for Male Pipe Thread and MIP stands for Male Iron Pipe which both indicate a male fitting with NPT threads.

How are pipes classified?

PIPE JOINTS Pipes are connected with the help of joints. A variety of joints are used in an assembly of pipes. Connecting two or more pipes together is called a fitting.

How do you join two pipes together?

A form of joint used on pipes that have an enlarged diameter or bell at one end and a spigot at the other that fits into and is laid in the bell. The joint is then made tight by lead, cement, rubber O-ring, or other jointing compounds or materials.

What is NPT fitting?

The end connection of a fitting that is to be assembled into another fitting is called the “Spigot.” The spigot end of a fitting has the same outside diameter as pipe. The common female connection of PVC fittings is referred to as the socket or hub, and the spigot end of a fitting can be inserted into a Hub or Socket.

What is NPT in pipes?

Pipefitters, sometimes simply called fitters, install and maintain pipes that carry chemicals, acids, and gases. These pipes are used mostly in manufacturing, commercial, and industrial settings. Fitters install and repair pipe systems in power plants, as well as heating and cooling systems in large office buildings.

Is MIP and MPT the same?

Plumbers mostly deal with water and water-based systems, such as transporting clean water for drinking and bathing while removing wastewater from toilets and sinks. Pipefitters more commonly handle systems that transport other types of substances, such as chemicals.

A reducer is a component in a piping system that changes the pipe size from a larger to a smaller bore. A reducer allows for a change in pipe size to meet flow requirements or to adapt to existing piping. The length of the reduction is usually equal to the average of the larger and smaller pipe diameters.
